Day 2 Snacks on train trip to Hakone

Bento box

We had a light lunch before our trip to Hakone and made sure we have something to eat on the train. It is not uncommon that people bring food to eat on the train. We took the Skinkansen and our trip from Tokyo to Hakone should be for less than an hour. We still feel we need to buy something at the train station and I can tell you, there are lots of stores where you can buy your meals, be it lunch or dinner or small snacks.
Japanese have a known tradition of giving gifts coming from a trip. There are stores selling beautifully packed chocolates, delicacies and souvenir items at the train station.
We were rushing to get to the platform for our train, so we decided to get a bento box to add to the siopao leftover from our lunch. Coincidentally, we chose a Chinese meal bento box with fried rice, siomai, gyosa dumplings and pickles. It was interesting that with the more popular plastic container, our bento was in the usual bamboo box. Bottled tea seams to be a good drink with the bento box but the tea was a bit strong for me, so I decided to get a bottle of coke from one of the many vending machines at the train platform.
Should you forget to bring your meal or snacks, there is cart selling snacks in all the trains running in Japan.
