2012 Birthday Lunch at ABC Kitchen

ABC Kitchen is one of Jean Georges's many restaurants in New York City
The place is not so easy to find, if you don't know what you are looking for. However, once you get inside, you will find the rustic interiors to be trully awesome.
Read somewhere that Obama shut down the restaurant for an evening to dine here.
The place is known for serving organic food. We ordered from the pre-fixe menu and ordered their popular salad made from pea shoots and our bill still came up a bit expensive than any of our regular lunch.
Some of the pictures are not taken from my camera. The lights are dimmed and it is quite difficult to come up with something nice and since I did not want to use flash, my pictures were not as good.
Although these pictures are not mine, these were the same dishes we had.
One of the popular dessert was the home-made ice cream with caramel popcorn.

Summer in the Hamptons

Home cooked Greek food
That's my plate. We had Greek food, prepared by the boss' wife, Jennifer.

There were different kebabs available. We had lamb, pork, and chicken. Grilled eggplant for the vegetarian. Sides consists of different kinds of salad. Cut green leafy vegetables, sliced beefsteak tomatoes, sliced onions with parsley, cucumbers and potatoes and farro with young kale(check my plate). All of these salad will be served with tzaziki sauce made with yougurt and sour cream with diced cucumbers. Everything will be served over toasted pita bread.
For dessert, which George's Mom made for the occasion, we had crescent cookies made from almond flour dusted with powdered sugar and baklava.

BCD Tofu House

As in any other Korean resto, there is always the free banchan.  The banchan consists of: kimchi (staple banchan),  potato salad, steamed brocolli flowerets, candied carrots, pickled cucumbers and spicy bellflower roots.
The special banchan for the day is the fried corvina.

Soondubo or Tofu jigae with seafood (clams, mussels and a shrimp), is Trina's favorite. The broth made from anchovies and kelp is really tasty because of the addition of the seafood.
the "tutong",considered a favorite for those who have acquired the taste. Although not bitter to the taste, very few of those who belong to the current gerations care to even try the tutong. This place will add hot water, after the individual rice holder gets emptied into you rice bowl. I prefer to eat the tutong just the way it is.
Bimbimbap. mixed rice with vegetables, with some bits of meat and an egg. Considered as a one-dish meal as everything is there. It has the protein(meat), different types of veggies(lettuce, carrots, spinach, bean sprouts), noodles and kosari, a type of Korean herbs. This version has tofu with it, after all you are in a tofu house.

BCD Tofu House is a chain of restaurants in Korea and in the US.

Greek food in Astoria

Eat all you can Greek Food
We were served total of 25 small dishes, starting from different types of dips and salad.

Then there were different types of seafood, fish, calamari. Next came the different types of meat; beef, fowl, pork, grilled with not much of seasoning. Just the natural flavor of the meat. Everything is either broiled or grilled and sometimes fried as in the calamari.
The dips are not your ordinary dips. There's the salmon and eggplant dips. Green salad, mashed potatoes and greek olives, my favorites.
